Cabo San Lucas is a resort town located at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula in the Mexican State of Baja California Sur. Cabo is approximately 1,000 miles south of San Diego, California, at the end of the Transpeninsular Highway.

Through the 1930s, Cabo San Lucas remained a small fishing village inhabited by only a few hundred residents. Though possessing a natural harbor, the town had no source of fresh water and little protection from severe summer storms off the Pacific. It wasn't until the late 1950s that Cabo attracted a large number of visitors, drawn by the area's reputation as a sportfishing paradise. Construction of the Los Cabos International Airport in the 1980s allowed visitors from around the world access to the town, firmly establishing Cabo as a resort destination. Today, the region between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, twenty miles to the north, is known as the resort corridor of Los Cabos ('the capes").

Baja California MapCabo San Lucas lies within the tropics where temperature variations from season to season are small, often less than 10° F between the warmest and coldest months of the year. The average year-round temperature is 78° F. Rainfall is moderate, at about 10 in. annually, most occurring in September and October. The storm season extends from July through October.

The signature landmark of Cabo San Lucas is El Arco, a natural stone arch at the southernmost tip of the Baja California peninsula. The arch marks the meeting of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, each a beautiful shade of blue or green. Large swells develop where the currents of these two bodies of water collide. Views of the arch and Cape Saint Luke's long arm encircling San Lucas Bay dominate the view from miles away.
